Event Report

More than 400 people attended the 2023 Upper Valley Electric Vehicle Expo on September 30 at Lebanon (N.H.) City Hall despite rain the entire day and night before the UV EV Expo. They chatted with the drivers of 38 EVs representing 18 different models, and many enjoyed rides. Plus, the Lebanon Ford dealer brought three Mustang Mach-Es and an E-Transit Van, the Town of Hartford (Vt.) displayed its new Toro no-turn ride-on lawn mower, Advance Transit showed off an electric bus, and multiple owners displayed electric bikes, recumbent trikes, and scooters.

Inside Lebanon City Hall, speakers gave 14 EV-related presentations, including 7 by Vermonters and 7 by New Hampshire residents -- epitomizing the bi-state nature of the Upper Valley of the Connecticut River. Talks included:

·     EV Basics for Drivers: Why and How To Get an EV; Financial Incentives; Charging, and More, by Dave Roberts of Drive Electric Vermont in a prerecorded talk, followed by live Q&A.

·     State Policies: What Role Can We Play? Featuring a representative of Drive Electric NH, Vermont State Senator Rebecca White, NH Representative George Sykes, and local public officials.

·    EV Charging: At Home, at Work, or at Public Stations. On home charging: Prof. Charles R. Sullivan, Dartmouth College professor of engineering. On workplace charging: Jessica Wilcox, Granite State Clean Cities Coalition and Peggy O'Neill-Vivanco, Vermont Clean Cities Coalition. On public charging: Sherry Boschert, co-founder, Plug In America.

·     E-bikes and Electric Lawn Care. On e-bikes: John Haffner, Vital Communities. On lawn care: Dana Clawson, environmental sustainability coordinator for Hartford, Vt.

      ·     What’s Ahead for EVs in the Upper Valley? Dana Clawson of the Town of Hartford, Ben Steele of Sustainable Hanover, Sherry Boschert of Sustainable Lebanon, and Adams Carroll of Advance Transit.

Visitors enjoyed free refreshments and multiple raffle prizes thanks to our generous financial sponsors: Lebanon Ford, Omer & Bob's Bikes, Cowbell Mobile Bike Shop, Norwich EV, and SolaflectEV.
